Agriculture, as a source of livelihood, is the largest sector of the Indian economy. In order to accelerate producvity of this sector it is crucial to focus on the progress of its components such as soil, irrigaon, seeds, ferlizer and pescides, modern farm technology, allied acvies like horculture, floriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry and poultry, value addion through food processing and markeng system. Agriculture has been one of the top priories of the present Government. Several measures have been taken to improve producvity and enhance the incomes of farmers and bring about major transformaon and growth in agriculture sector.

The Government is commied to doubling farmers' income by 2022 and for this it has increased the budgetary allocaon of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry in the budget 2018-19 to Rs 58,080 crore from 51,576 crore in 2017-18.

Realizing that the health of the soil plays a crucial role in agriculture, the Soil Health Card Scheme has been taken up in a comprehensive manner across the country with the objecve to enable the farmers to apply appropriate recommended dosages of nutrients for crop producon and improving soil health and its ferlity.

There has been a significant increase in urea producon which has tremendously helped ferlizer distribuon. The implementaon of 100% neem coang of Urea has not only resulted in improving the soil quality but also prevented the diversion of ferlizers to other purposes. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana has been formulated with the vision of extending the coverage of irrigaon 'Har Khet Ko Pani and improving water use efficiency- 'More crop per.
