A Comparison between SBI PO and IBPS PO

Banking sector has become the largest recruiting sector in present scenario as several new branches of nationalized banks have been opened in last few years and also there is an expansion in the banking services. To manage and operate these branches and services properly, banks require skilled and educated personnel. Candidates are recruited in the banks basically through two exams SBI PO and IBPS PO. Both these tests are conducted two times in a year and millions of candidates appear in these examinations to get an employment in Public Sector Banks. State Bank of India (SBI)

SBI is the largest commercial bank of our country, it announces recruitment notification every year to recruit candidates in the officer cadre. This is the dream job of the most of the contenders of the banking jobs as it offers lucrative salary package, high reputation and promotion policy.

Salary Allowances:

Probationary Officers in State Bank of India acquire four more increments in the primary stage than they get in any other Public Sector Bank. Beside this, they get allowances for almost everything like housing, conveyance, medical, etc.

Job Profile:

Probationary Officers in SBI are allotted work in either credit department or operational department in the initial stage. Because of diverse range and class of customers in front of you the branch banking experience becomes an exciting experience for the employees.

Promotion:

In SBI employees get the best promotion policies, if they clear the departmental exams they can get promoted to the subsequent scale within two years.

Posting:

SBI holds the most number of branches across the country. So, you can get posted even in the rural areas.

Work Pressure: This is the only drawback of this job. There is a lot of work pressure on the shoulders officers as they are accountable for the profit their branches. But in case they have done a good job, they get rewarded for it.

Institute of Personnel Banking (IBPS)

IBPS is the agency which conducts examination for the recruitment of PO in the Public Sector Banks, every year. Millions of aspiring candidates for banking jobs appear in this examination and also get selected in PSBs.

Salary and Allowances:

In public sector banks, officers get a decent salary to spend a decent life. But the salary and allowances in these banks are not as high as in SBI.

Job Profile:

In these banks also officers get the similar job profile as in SBI. They are given either the credit department or general banking department. If you are given responsibility of the general department of the bank, then you have to take care of the funds, receipts, fixed deposits payments, etc. and if you are assigned work in the credit department, then you have to increase the loan collection of your branch.

Postings:

Almost, every PSB has its most number of branches in a particular area or city. This does not mean that you will be placed only in a particular area. You can be placed at any place as per the requirement of the bank.

Work Pressure:

In Public Sector Banks, the work pressure is lot less than that of SBI. So, if the candidates are looking for government jobs and it is only a stepping stone for them, then IBPS PO is the best available option for them.
