In the last two decades, craze for Govt. Jobs or Public Sector Jobs has been increased among the youngsters. Students, who have completed Engineering degree and also want to get an employment in the government department, The reason behind this craze is simply there is less work stress, more job security, more holidays, more perks and better reputation in the govt job.

Every year various job notifications are announced by the different government departments for the persons from different educational background. Government also recruits the candidates, who have completed their engineering degree and wish to get an employment in public sector. Several examinations are conducted by different departments of the State or Central Government, to recruit the candidates from the Engineering Background. Indian Engineering Service (IES) Examination: UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts IES (Indian Engineering Service) Examination every year to recruit the candidates for the different ministries and departments of the central government. Some of the department for which it recruits professionals are Border Roads Organization, Central Electricity Authority, Central Water Commission, etc. It is one of the most prominent examinations in the field of engineering. It consists of written examination, which is followed by personal interview.

IT Officers in Banks: IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) conducts specialist officer (SO) examination every year to recruit IT officers in several Nationalized Banks. A written examination is conducted by IBPS, which is followed by personal interview on the basis of score attained by the candidates in these two; they are selected for SO post.

SSC Junior Engineer: A written test is conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) every year to recruit engineers under Grade B posts of Government of India. It offers employment under different Department Like Central Water Authority, etc.

Junior / Senior Engineer Jobs in Railways: RRB conduct recruitment examination for junior and senior engineers. Once selected with Indian Railways, candidates observe fast career growth and enjoy high reputation. Remuneration offered to Junior and SeniorEngineers is the same, but there is a slight difference in the Grade Pay, which they get.

Selection through GATE Examination: In India, there are several companies which enjoy the status of Miniratna, Maharatna and Navratna. Some such companies are SAIL, ONGC, GAIL, Coal India Limited, Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation, HPCL, etc. All these companies recruit the engineers though GATE Exam. Selected candidates get the annual remuneration of around Rs. 10 Lakhs. Several other benefits are also offered to the candidates, apart from salary and perks.

Jobs in Other Government Organizations: There are many jobs offered to the engineering background candidates in the government organizations like TRAI, GRSE, DRDO, BSF, National Aluminum Company Limited, etc. All these organizations offer the candidates with lucrative salary, perks and several other benefits.
