Topper's Plan to Prepare English for IBPS PO

With the growing competition to get a job in banking sector, this has become the need of the hour to follow a well-laid preparation strategy. Candidates need to divide their time properly and have to allot time to each and every section. It has been observed that the aspirants give more time to reasoning and quant section, and neglect English section. This often have fatal effects on their final result. Most of the aspirants fail just due to their negligence towards this paper. So, this is necessary to devote equal time to every paper, otherwise you will not be able to come out with flying colors. Below we are sharing some of the tips to prepare English section as suggested and followed by IBPS Toppers.

In an interview the topper of the examination of 2013 shared his preparation strategy for the section. He told that he devoted most of his time in preparing the section, he used to read newspapers, magazines and he also solved a lot of mock tests. All this helped him a lot in getting good marks in the section and in cracking the test. He revised all the basics of grammar and then used them to frame sentences and correction.

The topper of the year 2014 suggested that reading newspaper is essential to gain proficiency over the language. This not only enhances your vocabulary but also helps the candidates in preparing the General Awareness Paper. The Hindu, Times of India and other journals are good to read. As suggested by her candidates can also take help of some grammar books.

As told by the another topper of 2014 examination, the books that helped her very much in clearing the test are Wren & Martin and RS Agarwal. She also used to watch English News channels like BBC, Times Now, CNBC, etc. She used to read English magazines for competitive examination. These books helped her a lot in achieving success in the examination.

Another topper of the examination told us that solving the previous years question papers, taking several mock tests and joining test series helped him in clearing the examination. Through these tests he got to know about his weaknesses and strengths. After getting to know about his weak spots of study, he started preparing them and this improved his understanding and speed over the subject.

We believe that all the above mentioned tips by the toppers will help you in gaining proficiency over the subject. Apart from these, some other relevant tips are given below.

  • Grasp the pattern and syllabus of the subject. Then understand the subject as a whole. Choose the study material wisely.
  • Solve lot of comprehension passages, as you will be able to attain very good marks if you answer all the questions correctly. Apart from this it will also enhance your reading skills and vocabulary.
  • Revise the basics of the language then move ahead. Try to use the rules you have learnt.
