Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts famous Combined Graduate Level Examination or CGL every year for recruiting candidates under various Group B and Group C posts for different departments and ministries of the Central Government like Central Bureau of Investigation, Election Commission, etc.

Job Posts through SSC CGL

Posts under SSC CGL are divided under two categories Group C and Group B. We shall discuss only Group C posts in this article.

Inspector of Income Tax:

This is one of the most sought after post under Grade Pay Rs. 4,600 and Pay Band 9,300-34,800/-. This job post can be divided into two catgories: Assessment and Non-Assessment. People involved in tax raids, compliance etc. are put under assessment seats and the candidates involved in clerical work are put under Non-Assessment seats. Promotion for these posts depends upon zonal and regional seniority.

Divisional Accountant:

Candidates recruited on this post are put under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India office. They are posted mainly in different divisional offices of the department and at times the accountants also get posted in the state government offices. Work involves mostly auditing several expenditures of Government and forwading it to the head office. Candidates get salary between Rs. 9,300-34,800 +GP Rs. 4,200/-.

Auditor/ Junior Accountants/ Accountants in offices of CAG:

All these posts offer basically auditor jobs in different ministries and departments of the Government. Pay band for these posts is Rs. 5,200-20,200/- with GP Rs. 2,800. Promotional avanues under these posts are excellent.

Upper Division Clerk in various Departments/ Ministries of Central Government:

As one can see from the name, these posts offer clerical cadre jobs under different ministeries and departments in national capital or capital of any other state or Tier I and Tier II cities. Pay Scale for these posts is Rs. 5,200-20,200 but basic pay is low at Rs. 2,400/-.

Tax Assistant in CBEC / CBDT:

This is basically a desk based job and the work involves like compiling of data or data tallying. Pay scale for this post is Rs. 9,300-34,800/- with Grade Pay of Rs. 2,400/- and the candidates are mostly posted in New Delhi or other metro cities or state capitals. Promotion to higher positions is based on seniority as well as merit.

Compiler:

This post falls under Registrar General of India and the job work involves data compilation regarding census. It is mainly a desk based job, which offers timely and quick promotions. The pay scale for this post is 9300-34800 with basic pay Rs. 2400. For being eligible for this post, one needs to possess bachelor's degree in any stream like Economics/ Mathematics/ Statistics.
