General Awareness forms the most important section on any competitive examination. This is also the most scoring section of the entire paper as if you know the correct answer then you can answer it without any calculation. But to score good in this section, one needs to develop newspaper reading, magazine reading and book reading habit. Further, you must watch news on daily basis to keep yourself updated with the latest happenings across the nation.

Firstly, you should look at the previous years' question papers as this will give you an idea about the sort of questions you will be asked in the examination. If you look at the paper, you will find that most of the questions are based on Static and Science.

With Static we mean the questions based on History, Geography, Polity, etc. In Science, questions are framed from the syllabus up to 10th class. Some questions are based on the current events.

If you are preparing for SSC CGL examination, then for attempting the questions from history section, you should stick to NCERT books religiously. All the questions are based on the syllabus that you have studied in the classes from 6th to 10th. By preparing the syllabus from these books, you will easily be able to score good marks. You should focus on the topics like Medieval India, Indian Polity, Indian Constitution, etc. You don't need to overload your mind by cramming the dates of different events. As you can not remember everything, you should try to relate the events and create stories in your mind. This will help you to remember the names and events for long.

Several books are available in the market on Indian Economy, Geography and Polity, you should choose from the books that are specifically designed on the syllabus of SSC CGL examination. Various publishers are there, who publish books on these subjects. You need to purchase the books from the famous authors and have to study them. By doing this you will be able to prepare well all the sections.

For preparing the science section also, you have to stick to the NCERT books that you have studied up to 10th. You should prepare all the topics from the books well and should revise them from time to time to keep them in your mind for long.

To be able to attempt the questions based on current topics, you need to keep yourself updated. For this, you should read newspaper daily and you can also buy magazines, which are published especially for the preparation of competitive examinations.
