Essential Tips for the Preparation of SSC CGL Examination

SSC CGL examination is conducted every year by Staff Selection Commission for the recruitment of candidates under Group C and Group B posts of Central Government. Every year lacs of candidates appear for the examination to get selected on the reputed posts offered through the examination. As there is cut throat competition in the domain, it is quite difficult for the candidates to get selected. But through proper preparation strategy and determination, candidates can crack the examination easily. Below, we are suggesting some of the strategies which will help the candidates in achieving success in the examination.

SSC CGL Preparation Tips

Prepare Wholeheartedly for Tier I Examination:

One of the biggest misunderstanding among the candidates is that Preliminary Examination of SSC is easy. In reality, this is examination is standard in nature and is conducted to select deserving candidates for the Mains examination. As an aspirant, your primary motive should be to prepare well for Tier I examination. Sections like English and Quantitative Aptitude should be taken seriously by the candidates as they are part of Tier II examination as well.

Avoid Guess Work:

Candidates need to avoid guess work at any cost as it may result in marking of a lot of wrong answers. In the examination there is a provision for negative marking and for marking every wrong answer 0.25 marks get deducted from the total. If one is not sure about the answer, then he/she must leave it and should move to the next one. There are in total 200 questions in the examination of one mark each. Candidates are given 120 minutes in total for completing the paper.

Plan a Preparation Strategy:

To achieve success in the examination, candidates need to follow a planned course of action and approach towards paper. There are 4 sections in total in the examination and each contains 50 questions. If one try to solve every question from every section, then he/she will not be able to complete the paper on time. One should try to attempt 28-33 questions from each section and after solving that much questions if one gets the time then they can undertake other questions.

Devote Time to English Section:

If one has good hold of the language then he/she can easily score good marks in English section. By devoting 1 to 2 hours a day to this section, the candidates can achieve profiency in the subject and can score good marks. One can easily score 35 marks in this section by practicing the basics of the language.

Practice Quantitative Aptitude Section:

While preparing this section, candidates must pay attention to concepts rather than blindly learning the shortcuts. Both tier I and tier II examinations consist this section. So, one must try to learn the logic behind the question to crack the section.

Solve General Awareness Section:

When it comes to General Awareness section, candidates either know the answer or either they don't. So, just by reading the question candidates know that they will be able to answer it or not. Therefore, candidates can save a lot of time in this section as this section does not involve any calculations.

Look to Clear the Cut-Off First:

As there is always shortage of time, therefore the candidates must focus on clearing the cut-off first. They should try to attempt 30-35 questions from each section and after completing it, they should move to the other section immediately. After attempting the questions to clear cut-off, they can come back to the previous sections and can attempt more question. This way they will be able to crack the examination.
